Many participants have used lasers as an adjunct to endo therapy. What parameters are appropriate for the 980 Diode after cleanng and shaping? CW vs. pulsed? Short of apex or right to it? Dry, H20 or NaOHCL? How long at the apex? How many passes up and down the canal? How do you ‘know’ if you’re done?

    Thanks guys,

Hi Vince: I wrote an article in Dental Products review on using the erbium for it. Gord and Chris should have endo tips. If you want it I will dig it out and send it to you.

Here is a link on this web site.

Thanks Glen, that would be great!

Which wavelength (2940, 980) would be more effective?

    THanks again

I thik that the most efficient laser for endo is the 980.
I use the 980 with a 200um fiber to the apex after I used the profile gt technique.
Place the laser at 6 watts pulse mode 30 secondes .05 off .05 on .Mesure the fiber to go into the canal the nearest of th apex and shoot.
    You gonna have great results

    Hi Marc-Andre,

What do you have in the canal during firing of the 980? Is it wet with bleach or saline? Or do you do it dry?

    Thanks.

    Hi guys,

Here’s my first endo case with the 980.
    Male, 60yrs old,
Acute pain at 31 with discharging buccal sinus
The tooth had a knock yrs ago.

I gave him 250mg Amoxil TDS , analgesic ( Ibuprofen )and he returned the next day for treatment .

No local anaesthetics given, cavity accessed , working length determined and canal filed to size 25 MAF.

Since it was my first endo, I just used what was set on the machine ( 3w On 0.1s / Off  0.1s ). Hypochlorite was used as the irrigant and the 200 fiber was activated with vertical strokes. ( started moving  moderately downwards towards apex ;0.05mm short from apex; and back ).

The canal was then sealed. I also place the fiber into the sinus and lased very quickly around ( 2w On 0.05s / Off 0.05).

NO amoxil nor anaelgesic was taken post-op .

He was reviewed 1wk post-op without any post-op pain.
The sinus , which was lasered, also healed up. He was very happy that the treatment was completed in one visit.

Here are the pre-op and  7 mths post-op PA ( lesion almost completely healed)

    hi Andrew

I use profile gt technique for root canal treatmnent
I have a C2 siemens unit with electric motors
when we use files into the root we irrigate the canal with dentosept of siemens which is a solution with H2O2
after the negociation of the canal yau can use you 200um fiber like a 25 file near the apex
after the laser you have a dry canal and you can place you canal filling like thermafill with cement

    Thanks, Marc-Andre.

Good looking endo, Ken. Is it 0.1 sec or 0.01 sec?

    Thanks for the info.

When else do you guys find a use for the 200u fibre?

    Hi Andrew,
    The original setting on the 980 was 3w On 0.1s /Off 0.1s
Now, I am using 3w On 0.02s / Off 0.03s. Trying to avoid building up too much heat within the canal.
    Any comments / advice ?
    Ken
