Several members have asked about  the Europeon Society for Laser Applications Journal. It can be ordered at the link below:

Articles in the most recent journal include (among others)-

Lasers in the Treatment of Soft Tissue Lesions

Morphological  and Compositional changes of Human Dentin after ER:YAG Laser Irradiation

Influence of Er:YAG Laser on Tensile Bond Strength of Resin Modified Glass-ionomer Cements to Dentin

    Ron,

I too have noticed this journal, Journal of Oral Laser Applications, and wonder about its general acceptance.

Is it a good source of usable applied research? In otherwords is it worth the price?

    Very interesting.

    Hey Lee,

It’s interesting to read some of their papers, but their ideas about which lasers are appropriate for perio are not well informed–and I have tried to inform them.

So if they get the basics of laser perio wrong, I begin to suspect other concepts they have.

    Hi Bob –

Your FDA approval made it to the “did you know?” segment of OSA’s (Optical Society) Nov. magazine. It was nice overall but the editior’s could have done a better job finding out about the specs – gave the impression that the Periolase only had 2 pulse lenghts, 100 and 650 us.

    Hi Ray,

I know it appeared in Biophotonics, but not the journal you mentioned.

It seems lots of folks don’t quite get what we’re doing……or understand the impact of our FDA clearance, epsecially those who perceive themselves as experienced laser clincians.

Lee, I like the journal. While Bob is probably correct regarding perio, I’ve found lots of other interesting things I can use from the articles. The 1st that comes to mind is “tooth mousse” (Prospect Mi Paste from GC America).

I think the ESOLa was also the 1st place I read about problems bonding GI to laser preps.

    Bob –
Here is the link to the magazine. It looks like it is under “Scatterings”. I don’t even know why I bother with these mags with the expense of hardcopies when you can just get almost everything online.
