Hi all, thought there might be a need for a forum for sharing sources for supplies and accessories. Dr. Barr had shared a couple with me.
Trinity Technologies http://www.lasersafety.com  recently did a custom diode filter for my Sugitel loupes. Trinity had me obtain the filter frame from Surgitel and then made the lenses to fit. These filters are almost clear in color (slight yellow or gold tint) and allow you to see tissue color so much better than the rose color filters that Biolase provides.
The second supplier- Sventech 847-838-lase http://www.sventechlasers.com/
Sventech has ‘laser pencils’ for diode (3 for &#36250) that are designed for use with Ultradent disposable tips(Endo EZE ref/up 345 are pliable,White mini ref/up 1247 will not transfer heat according to Sventech). The disposable tip is bendable so you can get a better angle on the fiber for access to the pocket.

    Hi Ron–

    Good thread.

One of my favorites for laser protective eyewear is:

I have found the clip on from these companies to be less than great. They will in fact not work with the DFV 4.5 or 6 that are set at 22″ and directed so that I don’t have to bend over a bunch. I have to hold them in my hand for the DIode and the ER. They are also not great on the lingual of the Surgitel 5.0. They change the angle I see the area.

Cool stuff , here is what I had to do with the microscope to get safety.

I can use these or my glasse and look through the scope.

    Has anyone tried the faceshields?
How about just getting the lens and having someone cut a fit them to your loops? Sound hard but a good optical tech should be able to do it.

I had innovative optics replace the lens in my non prescription 3.5X loupes for my erbium laser with a glass filter.

The only problem is that they are heavier, and because the lens is flat not curved they get weird reflections in them. Finally they are darker than they were before when looking at the operating site. I use these when I am on the road and dont have a scope as I feel naked watching someone cutting a tooth and telling me it isnt cutting when I cant see what they are doing.

You can replace lenses for the erbium but the problem is that for the diode and others the filters are not clear.

Here is a pic of my loupes, and innovative optics did this for me. The lenses are erbium filters……glass, flat and thick. You cant do this if you need prescription lenses.

I can’t believe there is not a company that can provide a clip-on fliter for an NdYAG for less than &#36300. Where is the competition?

Kent…….I am sure that what keeps many out of the marketplace is the fear of legal action. In addition it still is such a small market that the big boys dont want to spend the time.

I think that newer designs and ideas will be forthcoming in the future, lets hope for everyones sake.

    All the best

The problem is the cost for proper testing and certification according to IEC207. I did it with filters for our diode: &#36 2.500. And the certification is only valid for exactly one type of laser and one type of loupes. For every other combination of laser/loupes you have to do the complete testing again.
