I’m sure many are doing this…. creating a laser bandage on the donor site of gingival graft procedures. I have been treating this essentially as an ulcer and applying ,25W 11% air 0 water. Have gotten very nice results except lately patients have been complaing that they get no relief. One patient left the office saying the palate felt better but the next day it felt as if it were burning. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Robert
Interesting post..from your message I take it that you are using the Waterlase? Any other thoughts out there? Any other wavelengths for this application?
    Thanks very much for posting!

    Hi Robert,

    Couple of questions.

Did you remove the donor tissue with a laser or scalpel ?
My experience has been less pain sometimes after laser than scalpel treatment of soft tissue. Not everyone will agree with this statement.

Did you happen to use tricaine blue and septocaine to anesthetize here ?I suspect this combo could give an adverse response(esp if the tricaine blue is left on too long and too much pressure is applied with the septocaine). Ask me how I know.

I have had limited success using my Ercr:Yssg for laser bandaids as far as long lasting pain relief goes on surgical sites but have had great success  with apthous ulcers . I have been using my new FRP : NdYAG recently for extraction sites and other pain areas and am having very satisfying results. This probably can be explained by something to do with  those chromophores, you know, those target tissue absorption rates that vary tissue interactions depending on wavelength, blah, blah ,blah- I leave that stuff to Bob Gregg..maybe he’ll chime in here.

I hope the J-E-T-S can beat Oakland this week. What a horrible year we are having.
