Give them a take home bleaching system. I have not had much luck with laser bleaching. The darker the orginal shade the better the results appear. Power gel works better then Biolases bleach. Even better still if you mix the power gel with a real fresh superoxide.

    Search dentaltown.com for deep bleaching.

Rod also sells a book describing the technique at <a href="http://www.newpatientsinc.com/kurthy_bleach.html

I would strongly recommend emphasizing the possibility for sensitivity. When I had my teeth bleached with the Lasersmile, I was extremely sensitive for about 36 hours. The up-side was that my teeth whitened up very well, something I wasn’t able to do with trays since my teeth are so sensitive already. You’d rather the patient’s expectations for comfort be exceeded, rather than have the disappointed, or worse yet, upset. I also emphasize that this is an elective, cosmetic procedure. I now make it very clear that there will be some discomfort. People are generally too vain to mind the sensitivity!

I will say that clinically, we have had relatively good results with this system.

    Good luck.

Sorry I’m getting in on this so late. Ron emailed me, but I’ve been having problems with my email, and many of my emails have been showing up about 3-5 days after they were sent. And then I was in Vegas at the Discus meeting for three days.

Anyway, if I can answer anything about bleaching, I’d be very happy to.

I’ve used most of the systems, including the LaserSmile, Rembrandt, Ultradent, Zoom, etc. They all work with my Deep Bleaching Technique, but some more than others.

With few exceptions, we are able to bring folks in the A-4 or C-4 area pre-op up to an 030 or 020 post-op. Some times we get to an 010, and sometimes ‘only’ an 040. Since we used to think that B-1 was our Holy Grail goal, 040 would have been a dream at that time. But since Deep Bleaching gets us routinely up to 030-010 (even tetracycline stained teeth), we’re gettin’ kinda spoiled. So in those very few cases where I ‘only’ get to an 040, I’m disappointed.

Rod : great that you came here to post. I have tried laser bleaching with an Argon (admittedly not with your deep bleaching technique but will admit that I have read your article in DT a couple of times.)

If you had to buy one single in office bleaching system which one do you like most and could you tell me why.

In addition I find it difficult to know what to charge for the in office bleach. The at home stuff we chage alot of times for stand alone cases (no veneers , crowns etc) a fee of 400 dollars Canadian.

For cases involving veneers I will often charge around half of this to convince the patients to bleach before the veneers etc.

How much do you think is an appropriate fee and how much time do you book.

In canada the auxillary team is not allowed to do anything here with the laser (in BC anyways).

I think Zoom or one of the bright lamps would be fine to be delegated.
