Hi folks: I actually posted this to show you that even on 3 year olds I can sometimes use the erbium and the scope (the child was just 3) and even though they are really squirmy and the esthetics was off (wrong shade ) but it was tough enough just keeping it dry and my fingers not bitten off (she bit me 2X HARD!!)……

Its nice to know though that this is possible on kids. FOr me this and osseous with open flap (yes Danny I have seen my case again today (much better healing but not perfect) and I saw another case today 3 days post op with much better healing.

Here is the case, just to show you that young kids can benefit from laser dentistry. I told the mom that her daughter should start smoking and drinking lots of coffee to make my filling look better………JUST KIDDING.

Oh well……….here it goes just for fun. Obviously no anesthetic at all, settings 30 hz 80 mj with 30 degree tip.

    Glenn,
It is still demo of the advantages of using a laser…I treat alot of kids and I have found using the lightest shade 99.9% of the time works best.
    Still a nice case!

    Glenn:

Other than the fact that your ASSISTANT’s shade selection s&*ks, how did you achieve an erbium laser prepared composite restoration with no white line effect at the margin?

Is it because you utilized such a low power setting?

Or did you plane the margin with a hand instrument?

The technique we are currently using is for the assistant to hold the high volume evacuation under the tooth and blow air on the area while I plane the margin with a spoon excavator. This removes loose, friable enamel rods and by-products of erbium laser ablation.

Hi Allen……..I did both in this case using 30 hz and 50 mj at the end and then using a spoon. In this case though I was just trying to get anything in the tooth because the little girl kept biting my finger, and biting it very hard!!

    Thanks for the kind remarks……….

Ron: thanks alot but I still felt the shade ruined it. I tried an opaque shade of point 4 but it was still too dark.

It was really tough as she was not very still…….Combat dentistry!!

    hope all is well………

    Hey David……..

Gosh I love how the most recent post is right next to this box…….THANKS RON.

My fingers feel great, my blown out knee on the left not so good. Pisses me off to be sitting and not jogging. ITs awful. Thanks for the kind remarks, and the three year old was good with the scope. I dropped down to 6.4X mag to help with any movement but I got it done. The camera on the scope (video) helps explain to mom why the work needs to be done, why I charge more, and gives them the understanding that what I am doing is not available everywhere.

The communication I am able to do with very nervous patients with the scope is amazing.

For anyone interested the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry meeting is in the first week of November in Scottsdale.

If you are looking to get out of the rain or cold for a good time and some really great lectures , check out

I will be there for anyone wanting to chat!!

Cya and thanks David, you always manage to put a smile on my face with your kind words.
