From ROMA…….I just wanted to say Chiao and also to say that I think this will be alot of fun. I know that Bob is a for sure and that I hope David is in. We are looking for a good Biolase speaker and hoped to have the inimitable Mark Colonna speak about those famous crowns preps and veneer preps of his…….

If he cant come who would be a good replacement.

    THanks in advance.

Hey DAvid………it will be great to have you come visit us and I look forward to making sure that you are able to have a good time with Susan when you are here. I am in Rome (just finished my lecture here to around 200 ) yesterday and then off to Hamburg, and Stuttgart Germany in two days. Gotta see some stuff in Rome first tomorrow.

I want to say that if someone knows Mark Colonnas email could you get him to contact Paul Newitt who is trying desperately to get someone to lecture on Biolases MD Waterlase, or crown preps etc……..

All the best folks and talk to you all soon.

Glenn ( on the road because I cant remember my password and if Ron knows it for my regular account , could you email it to glennvanas@yahoo.ca

    Thanks guys……..talk to you soon.

Well, things are shaping up nicely. Had a meeting with Dr. Theodore Maiman the other day and he is very excited about the event and apparently has some great, juicy, laser stories to tell.

We now have a solid line up of speakers for the day including:
    David Kimmel
    Bob Gregg
    Scott Parker
    Ray Becker
    Glenn van As

at only &#36225 canadian this is a great reason to get up to Vancouver and enjoy our city, and see some excellent speakers to boot. It would be great to see some of the forum group up here.

    Cheers
    Paul

    Hey Glenn

We will be thinking of you through the surgery. I will make sure the 23rd is set up and silky smooth and am looking forward to the surprises!
I was out with Jay tonight and not even a beer could loosen him up to give away the surprise. Looks like with surprises on the 23rd and some big ones at the April 29th Convergence meeting its a great time to be a VLG member!

VLG should be very proud of the Symposium they hosted yesterday. It was a very well run and very informative day of Lasers.
Dr. Maiman was a real treat. It is always great to hear RaY Becker, Glenn Van As and Bob Gregg speak. This was the first time I have heard Scott Parker lecture. Pretty impressive lecturer. Diffently someone I would go back and hear again.
On top of that the membership is a really great friendly group.
It waS also great to meet up with old friends and man what a great town VAancouver is!!!

David, it was great to see you here with Susan, Bob and Janna came and to hear all of the speakers including David, Bob Gregg, Scott Parker (really a great CO2 lecture the first I have seen…clap clap clap), and I marvelled at Ray Beckers Cerec/lasers no touch article.

    Really neat stuff.

Next off Andrew and Paul are to be congratulated for getting all the exhibitors to come out and play and to get 75 people to attend. They all stayed to the bitter end even to hear the last dreadful speaker drone on (yours truly)……..

THe dinner last night at the 5 sails was fun, great comraderie, jokes and a few laser pointer tests (green vs red) how does it make dry ice look etc.

In closing perhaps the highlight of the day was to hear Ted Maiman , the inventor of the Ruby Laser talk about how long it takes for inventions to surface, how he discovered it, the dirty politics of discovery, and the haunting backstabbing that goes on with these new discoveries.

Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed myself listening to topics that included Marketing with lasers, NdYAG and Perio, CO2 and esthetics and Lasers and Cerec…….

What a great day Paul and Andrew put on for the VLG laser study group. A true accomplishment for sure and maybe we could send a few photos to the ALD to show them what we did and to get the photos in one of the emails they are sending out to the international members to show how wonderful the VLG is.

Last thing on a personal note, I want to thank Andrew Shearon for the introduction of me personally , it was very kind, from the heart and something I will remember for quite some time.

Thanks again folks for a great day, I am off to Costa Rica with David Hornbrook and Hoya tomorrow so I will probably tune back in a week.

All the best and Ron Kaminer…..get that Green glowstick festival started, it was so great to see again faces that I havent seen for a while.

    Well,

Hard to top Glenn’s Kudos to everyone.

    Dittos! Dittos! Dittos!

Paul Newitt deserves a lot of credit for bringing everone together and pulling it all off.

My appreciation to Andrew for giving me a drive tour of the area–very nice to do that! Love his office cooler too!

Vancouver is a beautiful city, nice people, cosmopolitan, active, health conscious. The dentists are so very nice and polite to all us speakers, too! Janna said she loved it and would come back. That’s a major endorsement from a VERY picky traveler.

It was really great to meet and hear such great speakers in those Paul arranged to attend. That’s not easy to do and pull it off so well–Scott Parker, and Ray Becker were new to me. Great guys too!

Great topics related to clinical practice, not just lasers, like David Kimmels well done lecture on niche marketing.

I’m really excited for this group and how it is shaping up to be more than just a laser study club, but a high-tech dental practice symposium.

Last and hardly least was the opportunity, honor and priviledge to meet Dr. Ted Maiman–the inventor of the first laser, and his absolutely lovely wife Kathleen of 20 years marriage.

It was fun to ask Dr. Maiman laser physics questions at our table and watch his face light up as he pondered the question and did some math calculations on a piece of paper (which I kept!).

Dr. Maiman pulled out one of his pink ruby crystals and we used my 535nm green laser pointer to cause stimulated emission from his crystal–a red beam! He was very excited about doing that.

To learn more about this living historical legend, and get a copy of his autobiography and the real story of the invention of the first laser, go to his website:

    http://www.laserinventor.com/

Lot’s of fun for me to meet and interact with someone who will one day be considered in the same way Edison or Alexander Bell are now thought of. Past rivals still alive today prevent him still from getting the recognition he is due.

Thanks Paul for this special treat!

Thanks to all in the VLG for being such gracious hosts!

    Bob
