Hi David and Sam: I heard about doing this from Bill Grieder at Periolase meeting but I have done it before. WIth the new Versawave pumping out 450 mj per pulse maximum , I think it would be a good idea. I have done it before and found that it worked well for pedo but not as well for adults. The tip is quite long and hard to get into the posterior of the mouth. I would like to see it with a shorter tip as well but then its tough to use with the scope because you cant see around the edge very well.

Once my laser gets upgraded to the V chip then I may try it again on adult teeth.

    Glenn,
It sure was alot easier and less bloody using only the laser. The laser technique allowed for immediate cleaning. The question is will the attached gingiva come down w/ the tooth. Nice results in your case. Your need to go back and reshape the gingival contour on the lateral.
    Thanks.

Just came back from one of Ray Bertolotti’s day course on bonding. He is always interesting. He has been evaulating the Kavo O-zone unit for a while now. He was pretty impressed. He is seeing caries reversal as expected. Seems like this time next year the unit will be availble in the states. What a great tool to have .

Yup – been wanting one and I did it at the Chicago Midwinter. We’re signed up for training in April – I’m bringing both hygienists and Howard (fiance / officer manager / the guy who does the financial arrangements). We are all terribly excited!

Andrew said: Yet a simple procedure like a release of a tongue tie will provide an immense change to a patient who swallows hundreds of times each day for the rest of his/her life. That patient will be less likely to choke in swallowing, will be able to take a vitamin tablet easier, will be able to speak more clearly and freely…. As I tell my patients about lingual frenectomy: You don’t know about the freedom until you have it. And once you have it, you won’t want to lose it.

The first kid I did had a comment that made us (me and Mom) want to bawl at his one week check up – he said “Now I’m like all the other kids”. You just never know how what you do can affect someone.

Geriostore appears to be quite biocompatible as many articles have sated. 2 keys to success:
    1. leave only sound tooth structure
    2. restoring in a dry environment.
Success hinges on those 2 factors.
    Thanks

Interesting site David. Is that for Advanced or Educator status with ALD? smile.gif
Unfortunately, the site is wrong with its history and sadly inaccurate about the invention of the LASER. Townes no more invented the LASER than Gene Roddenberry invented the cell phone. Just because they may have thought about it. In fact Townes said it couldn’t be done.

Of course when you come up to Vancouver to speak at our Symposium in April you can get the real story first hand as you will more than likely be sitting next to the actual inventor of the LASER – Dr Theodore Maiman. Who deserved a Nobel but never received one!

Thanks! We’re already talking it up to patients. Howard keeps complaining “there goes my sports car.”

I agree less blood with the laser only but you have to watch AG or the perio police will nab you. The problem is that when you have the laser, everyone wants to see you fail!!

I often make sure that I take a real solid look at these cases to make sure they are ok before I use the laser on them.

I do need to recontour the lateral but he is only 16-17 so it may still shift a little (I will look when he comes home as he is a goalie playing junior hockey!)….

Take care and thanks for sharing Jeff.

And David …….no we are not going to give you Allen Williams name badge so you can debate with Maiman why Townes invented the laser!!
