Glenn van AsSpectatorHi David: very cool but it is difficult for me to orient myself to what I am looking at. I think the concept though is very solid and maybe somebody like Bob Gregg can talk about this. I know that many of the docs using this love it.
Thanks for the pics.
Glenn
vinceSpectatorHi Glen,
Nice case and great presentation. You are right about us neophyte laser users needing ‘bread and butter’ type scenarios on the forum, thanks alot. See you in Muskoka.

Glenn van AsSpectatorHi Vince cya later this week and hopefully we can share a laugh or two and a drink or two.
It otta be fun.
Listen , I dont have all the answers , and in fact many times I have more questions than answers and that is why it is great that we have the likes of Bob Gregg and others to set me straight and to quote the literature.
One advantage I do have is the scope which allows me to see so much more than with unmagnified vision.
Will see you next week and I am looking forward to putting some faces to the names.
Cya

AnonymousSpectatorJust thought I’d share a different type of light and water interaction seen in our backyard Saturday.
vinceSpectatorBeautiful……..

Glenn van AsSpectatorOh look its a Hydrokinetic Rainbow.
Grin
Couldnt resist.
Glenn
dkimmelSpectatorDoes this mean there is a pot of gold at the end of all Hydrokinetic reactions?
David
AnonymousSpectatorYes,
I think the gold initially moves from the pot at your end of the rainbow to someone else 😉
ASISpectatorThat’s a nice place to come home to, Ron.
I can just see you sitting on that swing sometime ago and thinking what a wonderful thing it would be to connect the dental laser users together….
Then the Laser Dentistry Forum became a reality!
Thanks again. Because of your forum, you have brought a bit of rainbow to all our lives.
Andrew
Glenn van AsSpectatorRon very funny reply to my tongue in cheek remark. I do think that initially the pot of gold goes from your pocket to the sales rep, but if you embrace lasers the pot of gold comes back to you and its alot bigger and fuller than the one you had originally.
I didnt buy lasers for the marketing aspects, but for me I bought my first Argon for two reasons…….short cure time for resins and NO MORE CORD…..I hated cord, and although I cant totally eliminate it, I have reduced its need.
THe erbium laser I bought to do preps on kids without anesthetic and Class Vs and I got some added soft tissue benefits, osseous recontouring , endo, and some class 3 and 4 with it as well.
I have enjoyed using the lasers, patients love the high tech , high touch nature of them, and they make tough cases alot easier to complete.
In general the rainbow is at my door each day I come to work and the pot of gold is inside my operatory. Its a sidebar to the main reason I bought the laser, but a definite one.
If you dont believe me ask rockin Rod about marketing and lasers……..
Great metaphor there……the rainbow and lasers…..LOVE it and might use it in my lectures Ron if you dont mind.

Agree 100% Glenn -Dentistry is way more fun with a laser and the pot  o gold does return quickly. You can always use anything I post here- just try to keep my dumb question examples to a minimum 😉
Andrew, thanks for the nice comments. When I started this it was for a pretty self centered reason- I didn’t see how I’d ever learn what I needed to know w/o a great deal of help. I approached ALD and offered to set it up for them but they declined as they wanted their forum to be members only- which I can understand as they could offer it as another “membership benefit” .
I decided to go it alone and thanks to some of the early posters (Glenn,Bob,Mark,Alan,Pat) who knew what they were doing, things kinda took off.
All the guys/ladies have provided a ton of help and also provided a way for the newbies to grow in leaps and bounds in laser dentistry while hopefully avoiding some of the pit falls others have taken along the way. The really great part is that the participants here are just great all around people-none of the junk you see happening on other boards.
So the real credit goes to all the participants, not the guy who happens to know a little computer coding.
Robert Gregg DDSSpectatorHi Guys,
Glenn–I’m LOL.
No problemo with pace-makers and lasers. Â Nor pace-makers with piezo-electric ultrasonic scalers–the manufacturers admonitions notwithstanding.
Air-cooled argon ion lasers produce as its strongest output 514 nm (green) then 488 nm (blue).
Air-cooled argon ion lasers can be operated either multiline (with several wavelengths operating simultaneously), or at a single wavelength.
The choice of wavelength can be made by adjusting the mirror coatings to select the appropriate wavelength–this allows the partially reflecting mirror to let through the color being selected. Â
Also, different wavelengths can be emitted when different currents are passed through the argon gas, since one current may be needed for one wavelength, and a higher current needed for, say, green. Â The current passed through the argon gas can be increased or decreased to excite the ions desired by flipping a switch from blue to green.
That’s about all I understand. Â I think the Spectrum used a varaible electrical current to the argon gas??
Bob
Robert Gregg DDSSpectatorNice job Jeff.
Bob
Robert Gregg DDSSpectatorGlenn,
My pictures are getting better, thanks to you setting up my camera when you were out here.
But now I’m having a heck of time creating a photo collage in PhotoShop.
Great case and images as always.
Bob
PS No one person is supposed to know it all…..that’s why I work with Del.
Robert Gregg DDSSpectatorHi Guys,
No question that increased visibility and access to remove calculus in a closed perio procedure is of additional benefit.
Now, try to get a periodontist to acknowledge that using a laser has additional value………
Bob
