whitertthSpectatorI just spent the last hour rereading this thread..It is one of the most useful ,educational and thought inspiring threads that has been on this boards….For all newbies this is a must read…
whitertthSpectatorAn acquaintance bought this from a leasing guy and asked me about it but I didnt know too much..( he only paid a few thousand for it …I told him he wasted his money) Does any one know abou this laser…Power? Pulses? Settings? Thanks
dkimmelSpectatorThis really has been a great thread. What to you all think about Eric’s use of ME Blue as a chromophore? Do you think it will make a hugh cahnge in the use of the diode for perio? IS this still a repairative procedure?
Glenn van AsSpectatorHi Allen……great picture there by the way (GRIN). Nice to hear from you, hope all is well.
I hope that you are going to the Clearwater meeting at Dannys place in a month. Will be looking forward to it.
Couple of things. The scope is great for showing the patient the cracks (take the photos or show them the live view)and the patient is scheduled for a crown. It is very effective documentation for the dental plans which look at a radiograph of an occlusal with some base under it (man these are the ones that crack all the time) and they say alternative materials will suffice. SHow them this photo and they approve it right away.
As for the erbium part….I just feel more comfortable using the laser on those black areas that are hard but stained and I agree that the patients complain of less sensitivity when doing the comps this way. There are so many reasons for the sensitivity after comps, one is for sure bacteria left behind, another is not getting resin (flowable ) right onto the margins in the boxes. Anyways, 4 years flies by doesnt it…….the amount of new stuff coming out with erbiums is getting less and less, but still I have many people buying them who need some help during the early stages of their learning curve and cases like this show how the laser can be used routinely for restorative.
Glenn
Kenneth LukSpectatorDavid,
Do you mean some kind of dye in the pocket to pick up bacteria ?

ASISpectatorHey Glenn,
I am really disappointed in how it took you 90 minutes to do this. Pull up your socks, man!
Just jiving you…. Very impressive!!! I particularly like that pic of the MB1 and MB2 with the white line running between them.
Glenn, you keep raising the bar. Thanks for doing that as you continue to inspire me.
Regards,
Andrew
kellyjblodgettdmdSpectatorHaving had the great displeasure of extracting 3 teeth just like this in the last 2 weeks, I’d suspect cracked root also. Boy, you just feel for patients like this when it’s obvious they want to keep the tooth so badly.
I’d love to see this case followed up and posted over the next year. Will the drainage come back? Will he stay healed? Thank goodness, at least he’s assymptomatic. Thanks for sharing the case. Nice photos, by the way!
Kelly
BNelsonSpectatorHi Glenn
That is a really nice case and your photos are fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
BNelsonSpectatorNice documentation, Glenn. And thanks for the link to the research!
Nick LuizziSpectatorIs there any merit to the idea that one of these topical agents placed at the apex of the tooth and use the erbium in a defocused mode at 20Hz at the apical tissures to achieve and anastetized pulp?
dkimmelSpectatorVLG should be very proud of the Symposium they hosted yesterday. It was a very well run and very informative day of Lasers.
Dr. Maiman was a real treat. It is always great to hear RaY Becker, Glenn Van As and Bob Gregg speak. This was the first time I have heard Scott Parker lecture. Pretty impressive lecturer. Diffently someone I would go back and hear again.
On top of that the membership is a really great friendly group.
It waS also great to meet up with old friends and man what a great town VAancouver is!!!
Glenn van AsSpectatorThanks Bruce…….I appreciate it and no problem with the research. I am doing my darndest to make the erbium work with the research in mind. Evidence based dentistry it is !!
Thanks again and cya
Glenn
Glenn van AsSpectatorDavid, it was great to see you here with Susan, Bob and Janna came and to hear all of the speakers including David, Bob Gregg, Scott Parker (really a great CO2 lecture the first I have seen…clap clap clap), and I marvelled at Ray Beckers Cerec/lasers no touch article.
Really neat stuff.
Next off Andrew and Paul are to be congratulated for getting all the exhibitors to come out and play and to get 75 people to attend. They all stayed to the bitter end even to hear the last dreadful speaker drone on (yours truly)……..
THe dinner last night at the 5 sails was fun, great comraderie, jokes and a few laser pointer tests (green vs red) how does it make dry ice look etc.
In closing perhaps the highlight of the day was to hear Ted Maiman , the inventor of the Ruby Laser talk about how long it takes for inventions to surface, how he discovered it, the dirty politics of discovery, and the haunting backstabbing that goes on with these new discoveries.
Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed myself listening to topics that included Marketing with lasers, NdYAG and Perio, CO2 and esthetics and Lasers and Cerec…….
What a great day Paul and Andrew put on for the VLG laser study group. A true accomplishment for sure and maybe we could send a few photos to the ALD to show them what we did and to get the photos in one of the emails they are sending out to the international members to show how wonderful the VLG is.
Last thing on a personal note, I want to thank Andrew Shearon for the introduction of me personally , it was very kind, from the heart and something I will remember for quite some time.
Thanks again folks for a great day, I am off to Costa Rica with David Hornbrook and Hoya tomorrow so I will probably tune back in a week.
All the best and Ron Kaminer…..get that Green glowstick festival started, it was so great to see again faces that I havent seen for a while.
Glenn
dkimmelSpectatorRon K , so where are we with the glow sticks???
The clock is ticking!!
Robert Gregg DDSSpectatorGood laser. Well made. A little underpowered at 4.00 watts @ 20 Hz. Single pulse duration of 100 usec limits this laser to more of diode-like applications. Decent cutter(not like an erbium or CO2) for near-IR. Poor coagulator ecept when burning tissue edges.
Will go as high as 200 Hz which should not be used in my opinion as it is too easily absorbed on roots during close soft tissue work, where 100 Hzis safe w/o easy damage.
